Data (The Simple Version)
What data is and why it matters - explained clearly!
📊 What's Data?
Data is just information in a format computers can understand! Think of it like this: if you write down how many hours you slept each night for a month, that's data. If you track how many people visited a website each day, that's data. If you record temperatures every hour, that's data!
Lane Vector uses data to discover patterns, test predictions, and figure out the rules behind how things work. More data = better predictions!
🔒 Wait, Where's All the Data?
Most of Lane Vector's data is kept private in the Secure Portal(the password-protected area). This is because:
- • Some data contains sensitive business information that partners don't want public
- • Full datasets can be huge (like, gigabytes huge!) and aren't useful to most people
- • Detailed research data is for collaborators who are actually working with the Lane Vector team
But don't worry - sample datasets and summaries will be shared publicly once available! Lane Vector believes in transparency and wants to help others learn.
Types of Data Lane Vector Uses
Here are the main types of information Lane Vector works with:
Time-Series Data (How Things Change Over Time)
This tracks how something changes moment by moment, day by day, or month by month.
Example:
Tracking how many people click on a website each day for 6 months. Or recording how hospital wait times change throughout the day. The "time" part is crucial because Lane Vector needs to see the MOVEMENT!
Kinematic Packs (Velocity & Acceleration Reports)
These are special reports that show not just WHAT happened, but HOW FAST it changed and which DIRECTION it moved!
What's Inside:
- • Categories showing which signals matter most (signal vs noise)
- • Speed measurements (velocity) - how fast things are changing
- • Acceleration - whether changes are speeding up or slowing down
- • Direction - where things are headed
These come in formats like CSV (spreadsheet files), Markdown (text documents), or plain text files.
Performance Metrics (How Well Things Work)
These measure how well something is performing - like clicks, conversions, wait times, accuracy rates, etc.
Example:
A website might track: clicks (how many people clicked), impressions (how many people saw something), conversions (how many people bought something), and bounce rate (how many people left immediately).
Audit Reports (Detailed Analysis Documents)
These are comprehensive reports analyzing what's working, what's not, and what should change.
What They Include:
- • Analysis of current performance
- • Identification of problems and opportunities
- • Recommendations for improvement
- • Predicted outcomes if changes are made
🎯 Why Does Data Format Matter?
Different formats are good for different things:
- CSV:Spreadsheet format - great for numbers and tables. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any data analysis tool.
- Markdown/TXT:Text format - great for reports and documentation that humans read. Easy to open in any text editor.
- JSON:Structured data format - great for complex nested information. Used by programmers and APIs.
📚 Sample Datasets (Coming Soon!)
Lane Vector plans to release sample datasets that show:
- • How kinematic analysis works with real data
- • Examples of time-series velocity and acceleration
- • Before-and-after comparisons showing improved predictions
- • Anonymized data (no personal or sensitive information) so others can learn
These aren't available yet because the research is still in progress, but they're coming!
🔓 Want Access to the Full Data?
If you're a researcher, collaborator, or partner, you can access detailed datasets and documentation through the Secure Portal. This requires permission from the Lane Vector team.
